A Study on the Cornell Medical Index

The validity of the Cornell Medical Index was tested by the Author in the Korean Military Personnel from July to September, 1975 on the physical as well as mental complaints of Military Personnels (Army and Air Force) through applying modified C.M.I. questionnaire towards a random population sample in those group. (a total 355)
The pribcipal findings from this survey can be outlined as follows:
1. Average physical and mental complanits per army numbered 1.3, 1.2 each. Average physical and mental complanits per air force numbered 1.0, 0.9 each. Average for the total in both were 1.3, 1.0 each.
2. Number of physical complaints was largest with Section D (Digest Tract) in army and air force amounting to 2.7, 2.3 each, while that of mental complaints was largest with Section M (Inadequacy) in both numbered to 2.3, 1.8 each. Combining the physical and mental complaints Section D in both demonstrated the largest number of average.
3. The largest number of complaints in arvy and air force were seen with the 25¡­29, ¡­19 age group rating 31.7, 20.0
4. The "College & Univ." group in army and "Highschool, College & Univ." group in air force gave the largest numbers of compalints averaging 29.0, 18.5 each. The number of complanints in both were unusually found to be increasing with higher education level. The largest proportion in both or 51.5, 73.3 each per cent of "Highschool" group and "Middle school" group were found to be with no complaints. Those giving more than 40 complaints covering all Sections rated 28.2, 14.1 per cent each in both or highest with the "Univ." group in army and "Highschool" group in air force.
5. By rank, "Officer" group in army and "Pfc" group in air force had the highest average number of complaints or 33.8, 21.2 per cent each. No complaints cases rated highest or 77.8,71.9 per cent each of the "Staff sergeant group in army and "Lance corporal" group in air force. By all sections, 33.0, 25.0 per cent each of the "Officer" group in army and "Private" group in air firce had more than 40 complaints and demonstrated the highest rate.
